DANVILLE, Contra Costa County — October 23, 2026. A Danville homeowner searching for accessory dwelling unit financial assistance may encounter old web pages advertising $7,500 or $15,000 rebates. But the town’s current ADU resource page now says the Senate District 7 ADU Accelerator Program has officially concluded. It explains that the allocated funding has largely been distributed to support previously eligible homeowners. Residents should not budget around a program described as closed.

What was offered?

The program was piloted by state Senator Steve Glazer across participating East Bay cities to encourage the construction of additional homes. Earlier official material described rebates of up to $7,500 for certain unrestricted ADUs and up to $15,000 for qualifying units committed to low-income housing through a long-term deed restriction. It did not cover all ADU sizes or any applicant automatically. Those historical figures explain why the older program still appears in search results; they are not an open offer on October 23, 2026.

What happens to previously approved homeowners?

According to the town, people who were previously approved can still use its Approved Rebates portal to provide outstanding documentation required for issuance. An approved reservation and a paid rebate are not the same thing. If someone has an earlier award letter, they should confirm with the town what work, proof and deadlines apply before assuming that money is available to cover an imminent contractor payment.

Can homeowners still apply for an ADU construction permit?

Yes: the end of the financing pilot is separate from the ordinary construction-permit pathway. The Danville Permit Center continues to provide ADU submittal requirements and online applications. Applicants should verify lot-specific zoning, utilities, fire requirements, building code, engineering and municipal charges. The town’s ADU guidance says ADUs and junior ADUs may not be rented for 30 days or less under the municipal code.

Are the old Garden Cottage plans still useful?

The town previously released permit-ready Garden Cottage designs. However, older plan packages may require professional modifications, site plans and updates for the building-code rules in effect in 2026. Homeowners should not assume that drawings advertised in a 2020 announcement are still accepted without revision. Consult the designers, the permit center and the currently adopted municipal codes before investing in a plan.

How to get clarification

Danville Planning is available at 925-314-3310 or planning@danville.ca.gov, at 500 La Gonda Way. Ask specifically whether any new assistance program has opened and whether previous approved recipients have outstanding rebate conditions. The site’s old program application form may still be searchable even though the program is listed as ended; a visible form alone does not establish that new funding is available.
